Digital Dystopia: Exploring The Unexpected Proliferation of Human Psyche in Dave Eggers' The Circle
Technology has become an inherent part of our lives. From computers to smartphones, these accessories have become indispensable, and now we heavily rely on the digital world. While the high-tech gadgets ensure enhanced connectivity, their excess use can have disastrous consequences. The paper aims to provide a guide on the consequences of increased use of these machines. It reflects on how autocratic regimes, democratic majorities, and private and professional organisations can achieve social control by managing and manipulating the flow of information through digital devices, thus hindering citizens' freedom and privacy. The modern world of science and advancement not only makes humans puppets in the hands of technology but also leaves an indelible imprint on their mental state. The qualitative analysis of Dave Eggers’ The Circle enables us to articulate how digital equipment governs human life and affects and administers the human psyche. Thus, this paper aims to highlight the ascendancy of digital devices, creating a disrupted state of digital dystopia, eventually affecting the human psyche.
