Needs Analysis for Master Economic Students in Moulay Ismail University

The present research aims at investigating needs analysis of English language programs (General English and ESP) for Master Economic students at the faculty of Economics and Law (Moulay Ismail University). A large body of the existing literature in the Moroccan context seems to address and explore the English Language program for engineering students in different higher educational institutions. Furthermore, and given the peculiarity of each contextual ESP learning, exploring the needs of economic studies students becomes a necessity. Needless to mention that Economic studies involve varied and considerable affiliations in which the English course is a requirement, and a large proportion of vacancies in various economic sectors in the country is strongly related to economic studies. Fifty- eight Master students from different economic studies’ affiliations (Faculty of Economics) expressed their perspectives (through a questionnaire) on the actual English program taught within the contextual teaching and learning environment at the faculty, in addition to their expectations on their needs for a language program that would help them integrate the job market. The findings suggest that the participants identify a number of pitfalls and challenges in the actual teaching and learning context. They also suggest interesting views concerning their expected needs in relation to their professional careers. This study suggests different theoretical and pedagogical implications to take into account in the research literature of needs analysis. Abstract
