PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TEACHING EXPERIENCE: DETERMINANTS OF CLASSROOM EFFECTIVENESS IN BANADIR REGION, SOMALIA

This paper examines the critical role of teachers’ professional qualifications and experience in ensuring effective classroom teaching in the Banadir region of Somalia. It defines professional qualification as the academic background or certification that qualifies an individual to teach, while experience refers to the accumulated skills, exposure, and training that enhance teaching performance over time. Key factors such as years of teaching experience, mastery of subject content, and pedagogical skills are discussed as essential components for creating effective learning environments. The paper reviews various scholarly opinions emphasizing that effective teaching fundamentally depends on a combination of professional qualifications, teaching experience, subject matter expertise, and pedagogical content knowledge. It highlights the concern that many teachers in Somalia currently lack these necessary qualities, which undermines educational outcomes. Consequently, the paper recommends that pre-service teacher education programs prioritize these core competencies and calls for educational stakeholders to implement monitoring strategies to maintain and enhance the standards of teacher preparation institutions in Somalia.
