Motivational Factors Influencing Consumer Purchase Decisions for Eco-Friendly Products: An Empirical Analysis
Abstract: As environmental concerns grow globally, eco-friendly products have become a focal point for both consumers and businesses. However, the motivations behind consumer purchase decisions for such products remain complex and often contradictory. This study aims to empirically analyze the significance of various motivational factors that influence consumer behavior toward eco-friendly purchasing. Drawing from consumer behavior theories and sustainability literature, key factors such as environmental awareness, social influence, price sensitivity, eco-labeling, and personal values were identified and evaluated. A structured questionnaire was administered to a diverse sample of 439 consumers, and data were analyzed using multiple regression techniques to determine the impact of each factor on purchase intention. The findings reveal that environmental concern and social influence are significant predictors of eco-friendly purchasing behavior, whereas price sensitivity negatively correlates with such purchases. Interestingly, eco-labeling and perceived product effectiveness also emerged as influential, though to a lesser extent. The results reject the null hypothesis that motivational factors have no significant influence on consumer decisions, highlighting the critical role of targeted marketing strategies in promoting sustainable consumption. This study provides valuable insights for marketers, policymakers, and sustainability advocates aiming to enhance consumer adoption of environmentally responsible products.
