Role of Controlled Release Fertilizers in Agriculture

Over use of conventional fertilizers can lead to environmental issues such denitrification, surface runoff, leaching to groundwater, and atmospheric volatilization of nutrients. To rationalize environmental issues and improve the longevity of fertilizer in soil, controlled release fertilizers (CRFs) have been formulated. The application of CRFs can decrease the loss of nutrients, stipulate higher nutrient use efficiency and better soil health at the same time to accomplish the goals of climate-smart agricultural (CSA) practices.

Abstract

To rationalize environmental issues and improve the longevity of fertilizer in soil, controlled release fertilizers (CRFs) have been formulated. The application of CRFs can decrease the loss of nutrients, stipulate higher nutrient use efficiency and better soil health at the same time to accomplish the goals of climate-smart agricultural (CSA) practices.
