A COMPARATIVE ACCOUNT OF BIOACCUMULATION OF FOUR PERSISTENT ORGANIC POLLUTANTS IN THE GILL TISSUE OF RASBORA DANICONIUS
The present work aims to explore the comparative effects of a four Persistent Organic Pollutants: two PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) Naphthalene and Anthracene, and two PCB (Polychlorinated Biphenyl) congeners PCB 126 and PCB 169, on the gill tissue of the freshwater fish, Rasbora daniconius with respect to bioaccumulation of these substances in the gill tissue during a chronic exposure period of 30 days. Naphthalene showed the least bioaccumulation whereas PCB 126 showed the maximum bioaccumulation, to the extent of more than 800 times that of Naphthalene.
