From Primeval Rebellion to Cosmic Restoration: Read Genesis through the Apocalyptic Lens of 1 Enoch and Revelation

This study undertakes a rigorous theological exploration of the apocalyptic imagination as mediated through the Book of 1 Enoch and the Johannine Revelation, with the express aim of re-evaluating the theological edifice of Genesis 1–11. By situating Enoch within the broader Second Temple milieu and uncovering its interpretive coherence with canonical Scripture, the work argues that 1 Enoch is indispensable for understanding the cosmology, anthropology, and theodicy embedded in Genesis. The inquiry proceeds through a seven-part exegetical and theological progression, tracing motifs of heavenly rebellion, divine judgment, angelic liturgy, and eschatological renewal. Particular emphasis is given to the figure of the Elect One, the architecture of the heavenly temple, and the participatory role of the righteous in cosmic worship. The final chapter culminates in a hermeneutical reorientation, arguing that the beginning (Genesis) and the end (Revelation) are not merely literary poles but theological mirrors, with 1 Enoch serving as both bridge and key. Through historical-critical insight and theological reflection, this work advocates for the reintroduction of 1 Enoch not as an alternative canon, but as a necessary interlocutor within the biblical tradition. Such a reintegration awakens Genesis to its apocalyptic depth and calls the contemporary reader to reconsider the nature of divine justice, the meaning of worship, and the telos of creation as envisioned by those who stood between the scroll of Moses and the vision of Patmos.
