ADAPTING GLOBAL STRATEGIES FOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM TO THE POST-CONFLICT KARABAKH REGION IN AZERBAIJAN
Nowadays, tourism is one of the main fields of the world economy and plays a vital role, even the gross domestic product (GDP) of some countries almost entirely relies on tourism. Tourism also can be beneficial for the development in the post-conflict regions. With the rich resources of the region, many modern tourism methods can be applied to the Karabakh region with examples shown from other post-conflict areas. Moreover, with the ongoing initiatives by the Azerbaijani government and the potential implementation of additional tourism strategies, the Karabakh region has the potential to become one of the main tourist destinations in the Caucasus, and even in the Middle East. This paper analyses how different fields of tourism can be applied in the post-conflict Karabakh region in Azerbaijan for development and recovery of the region by comparing case studies from other post-conflict areas and analyzing data.
