BOARD ATTRIBUTES AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF LISTED INSURANCE FIRMS IN NIGERIA
This study examined board attributes and financial performance of listed insurance firms on the Nigeria Stock Exchange. The study objective was to investigate the effect between Board attributes (Board diligence, Board gender diversity and Remuneration committee) and financial performance (Return on assets) with human capital efficiency as a moderating variable of insurance firms in Nigeria. The study adopted ex-post facto research design. The study population was twenty five (25) listed insurance firms in the Nigerian Exchange Group. The sample size was eighteen (18) of the listed firms drawn using the census approach and based on availability. The data of the study was retrieved from annual reports of the listed companies for the period of 2013-2022. The statistical tool used was descriptive statistics, bivariate correlations, multiple regressions, robust standard error, and moderated multiple regressions analysis to establish the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable. But negative effect on return on assets. Human capital efficiency significantly moderates the relationship between board attributes and return on assets. The study therefore concluded that gender diversity does not have a significant effect on the financial performance of insurance firms in Nigeria. The study recommended that firms should maintain remuneration committee, given the strong influence it has on financial performance. Remuneration committees should be independent and gender diversity should be enhanced
