Symmetry-Breaking as Physical Information: A Formal Proposal

We propose a formal insertion of symmetry-breaking information into the quantum path integral as an effective physical quantity that (i) quantifies actualization, (ii) couples to decoherence, and (iii) produces testable modifications to tunneling and interference in systems where symmetry reduction is dynamically relevant. The proposal rests on three ingredients: a configuration-dependent symmetry measure, an information functional accumulated along histories, and an influence functional (or equivalent imaginary effective action) that suppresses high-information paths.

Abstract

We propose a formal insertion of symmetry-breaking information into the quantum path integral as an effective physical quantity that (i) quantifies actualization, (ii) couples to decoherence, and (iii) produces testable modifications to tunneling and interference in systems where symmetry reduction is dynamically relevant. The proposal rests on three ingredients: a configuration-dependent symmetry measure, an information functional accumulated along histories, and an influence functional (or equivalent imaginary effective action) that suppresses high-information paths.
