Adherence rate to antidiabetic medication in Bangladeshi type 2 diabetes patients
Medication adherence is a big concern in public health nowadays. The poor adherence rate to antidiabetic medication may bring poor therapeutic outcomes leading to increased comorbidities and diabetic complications. In Bangladesh most of the people are either unaware of or ignore the impact of non-adherence to antidiabetic medications. A cross-sectional study was carried out from August 2024 to October 2024 of type 2 diabetic patients taking antidiabetic medication for at least 2 years implementing The Medication Compliance Questionnaire (MCQ) for the evaluation of adherence rate. Binary logistic regression analysis was applied through SPSS version 27 to investigate the associated factors. About 51.4% of the total 140 patients were non-adherent to medication. The age, level of education, family income, employment status, duration of diabetes and the number of daily doses of medicines are significantly associated with medication adherence. Forgetfulness, work pressure and financial difficulties were mostly mentioned reasons.
