Thermal Analysis and Modelling of Heat Transfer through Solid Walls

Understanding heat transfer through walls is critical in the design of energy-efficient buildings, industrial furnaces, thermal insulation systems, and electronic enclosures. This study presents a comprehensive investigation of heat transfer through a solid wall under both steady-state and transient conditions. The research incorporates theoretical modeling based on Fourier’s Law of heat conduction, experimental validation using a controlled test wall setup, and numerical simulation using ANSYS Fluent. The effects of wall material, thickness, surface temperature, ambient conditions, and thermal conductivity are analyzed in detail. Results reveal significant temperature gradients across materials with low thermal conductivity and confirm that transient heat transfer plays a vital role during thermal cycling or start-up conditions. The study also explores methods to reduce thermal losses using insulation materials and reflective coatings. The findings offer valuable insights for thermal management in construction, process industries, and electronic packaging.
