Effective Strategies for Reclamation of Acid Soils
The soil is the source form which produces food, fruit, fodder, fiber and fuel. Soil is one of the world’s most important natural resources. Soil the interface of air, minerals, water and life. In acidic soils, most of the plant nutrients become unavailable and consequently plant growth is affected. Si, Al and Fe oxides are dominant and responsible for acidity. Due to continuous rains acid soils develop. Low pH, high proportion of exchangeable hydrogen and aluminum are the main characteristics of acidic soil. The acid producing fertilizers like urea, ammonium sulphate accumulation makes the soil infertile and renders it unfit for agriculture. Physical, Chemical and Biological amelioration are the way to improve acidic soils.
