Technical and Expressive Challenges in Oil and Acrylic Painting: An Analysis of Common Errors and Treatment Strategies among Fine Arts Students
This study aims to identify and classify the most common technical and expressive errors in oil and acrylic painting among artists and art students. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical methodology, analyzing artworks, reviewing relevant literature, and using a questionnaire distributed to a purposive sample of artists and students in Iraq. The study seeks to analyze the underlying causes of these errors, whether related to the chemical properties of materials, weak understanding of artistic foundations, or practical application. The study concludes by presenting a set of strategies and practical solutions to address these errors, starting from color control and application techniques to the foundations of artistic composition. The results highlight common errors shared between the two mediums, primarily related to the misunderstanding of color values and excessive blending, while each medium has unique challenges associated with drying time. The study recommends focusing art education curricula on practical workshops that directly address these issues and providing artists with a methodological reference to develop their skills, demonstrating the progress students can achieve after diagnosing and systematically addressing these cases.
