Beyond Cognitive Hierarchies: Deconstructing Intelligence Through Experiential Epistemology
This paper examines the constructed nature of intelligence as a social category, arguing that what we commonly understand as cognitive ability is largely dependent on cultural scaffolding and semantic familiarity rather than inherent intellectual capacity. Through analysis of experiential learning paradigms, we demonstrate that the psychological mechanisms underlying feelings of intellectual inadequacy are artificially manufactured by educational systems that privilege culturally specific knowledge frameworks. We propose that genuine educational reform must address not only curriculum content but the experiential structures that create and maintain cognitive hierarchies, ultimately arguing for an epistemological approach that recognizes the arbitrary nature of intelligence measurements while acknowledging their profound social consequences.
