Performance Characteristics of a New Automatic Chip TLD Reader)
The TR5500 TLD reader has been specifically designed and developed in Iran to enable automated and efficient reading of thermoluminescence (TL) chips and tablets. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) requirements for dosimetry laboratories, it is essential to establish a comprehensive quality management system (QMS) to ensure compliance with standard criteria. The aim of this study was to evaluate the key performance characteristics of this device, including response nonlinearity, coefficients of variation (COV), reading stability over time, and measurement repeatability. In this regard, LiF:Mg,Cu,P type thermoluminescence dosimeters were exposed to a standard photon radiation field and then measured using the TR5500 reader. The obtained performance characteristics were compared with the criteria specified in international IEC and ASTM standards. The results showed that the device not only fully complies with the critical requirements of these standards, but in some cases even exceeds them. The reader has excellent stability and repeatability, and its high reliability makes long-term, routine use in accredited dosimetry laboratories fully justified.
