The Role of IoT in Shaping Smart Tourism Destinations:Review.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a transformative technology in the evolution of smart tourism destinations, fundamentally reshaping how tourists interact with destinations and how tourism operators manage resources and services. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of IoT's role in creating intelligent tourism ecosystems through systematic examination of existing literature and empirical evaluation of real-world implementations. Through a mixed-methods approach combining systematic literature review and quantitative survey methodology, this research examines loT applications across multiple dimensions of smart tourism destinations, analysing data from both tourist experiences and destination management perspectives. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on smart tourism by providing empirical validation of loT's transformative potential while addressing significant research gaps in privacy mechanisms, offline functionality, and comprehensive stakeholder impact assessment. The findings offer practical insights for tourism operators, policymakers, and technology developers seeking to implement loT solutions in tourism destinations. The study concludes that while loT presents substantial opportunities for creating more efficient, sustainable, and visitor-centric tourism destinations, successful implementation requires addressing privacy concerns, ensuring robust security frameworks, and developing comprehensive strategies that balance technological advancement with user protection and operational sustainability.
