Reynolds number impact on 2 kW wind station performance in Mary, Turkmenistan
This study evaluates the wind energy potential at 10-meter elevation under the climatic conditions of Mary, Turkmenistan. Analysis utilizing specialized software developed at the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan reveals an average wind speed slightly exceeding 3 m/s at the specified height. Reynolds number calculations demonstrate consistently low values, ranging from 0.55 to 0.58 during summer months and 0.67 to 08 in winter periods. The calculated Reynolds numbers, all below the 2320 threshold, indicate laminar wind flow characteristics at the studied elevation. Energy generation assessments for a 2-kW rated wind turbine show limited output potential, with July producing 193.1 W and December yielding 244.5 W. These findings suggest that wind energy utilization at 10-meter heights in Mary exhibits insufficient potential for practical implementation. The technical and economic analysis concludes that deployment of low-capacity wind turbines in this location remains unviable given the current atmospheric conditions and energy yield parameters.
