Towards chaos experiments for cloud-native microservices in the insurance industry
Microservices Architectures (MSA) are increasingly adopted for their scalability, rapid release cycles, and resilience, which are essential for modern enterprises. However, integrating microservices with legacy systems remains a significant challenge, particularly in the insurance sector, where brownfield landscapes and established Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA) and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) infrastructures prevail. Previous work introduced RaMicsV, a logical reference architecture for microservices in the insurance industry (in German: Versicherungen), and T-RaMicsV, one technical implementation, to facilitate the integration of microservices with SOA and third-party systems in a cloud-native manner. Based on these foundations, this paper implements the Car Insurance Process using T-RaMicsV and examines the system for scalability and elasticity. Chaos Engineering conducts the tests. The scalability and elasticity of microservice integration, especially with existing SOA Services and ESB, are evaluated through these experiments. Our goal is to examine logical and technical reference architectures for microservices in the insurance industry in order to implement them in this industry and modernize application landscapes in the long term.
