POBTOG: a population-based topology generator for country-wide communication networks
Network topology data is critical for evaluating and optimizing service provider infrastructure, but real-world topologies are often undisclosed or incomplete, limiting research. To address this, we present POBTOG, a populationbased network topology generator creating hierarchical topologies comprising core and distribution layers. Our tool uses global population and administrative datasets, combined with a dualtree space-partitioning algorithm and population-weighted k-means clustering to generate topologies for any country worldwide, while only general design information, such as the number of layers and their connections, is required.
