AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF PAT MARTINO'S SOLO LINES FROM SELECTED SIX COMPOSITIONS
This thesis, submitted to the College of Music, Mahidol University, Jazz Department, represents the culmination of my graduate research under the supervision of Lect. Tanarat Chaichana, Ph.D. (Music) as my major advisor, and with the guidance of Lect. Ampai Buranaprapuk, Ph.D. (Music) as co-advisor.The work involved an extensive study of the artistry of jazz guitarist Pat Martino, focusing on a detailed analysis of his improvisational vocabulary. By closely examining solo lines from six selected compositions, this research aims to identify Martino’s unique phrasing, harmonic language, and improvisational logic.Through this analytical study, the thesis not only highlights Martino’s significant contribution to modern jazz guitar performance but also provides insights and pedagogical value for contemporary jazz studies.
