Quasimus ovalis

Quasimus ovalis (Candèze, 1873) Cardiohypnus ovalis Candèze, 1873: 15 (original description; published type locality: Japan); Candèze, 1892: 491 (recorded from India). Hypnoidus ovalis (Candèze, 1873): Schwarz, 1906: 154 (placed under Hypnoidus). Quasimus ovalis (Candèze, 1873): Schenkling, 1925: 216 (placed under Quasimus). Type Locality. Japan *. Type Depository. Syntype, SU (NHML). General Distribution. Indonesia (Sumatra), Japan * (Schenkling 1925). Remark. Candèze (1892: 491) noted, “Cette espèce, plus large, de forme plus ovale, m’a paru devoir être assimilée au Cr. ovalis, originairement décrit d’après des exemplaires provenant du Japon.” (Translation: “This species, which is larger and more oval in shape, seems to me to be similar to Cr. ovalis, originally described on the basis of specimens from Japan.”) As Candèze expressed uncertainty regarding the identity of this species, its occurrence in India (Jharkhand) is doubtful. Therefore, this species is not considered to occur in India.
