Determinants Of Psnp Participation & Its Impact On Households' Asset Building, Income And Resilience To Shocks: The Case Of Rural Households Of Deder Woreda
PSNP is aimed to bring a significant change to the needs of food insecure households and create
productive investments to strengthen rural economic growth. The objective of this study was to
assess the impact of PSNP on households
’ asset building, income and resilience to shocks at Deder
district, East Hararghe zone, Oromia regional state of Ethiopia. Cross-sectional data of 160 sample
households from beneficiaries and 160 sample households from non-beneficiaries groups were
gathered. A propensity score matching method was used to assess the impact of the program on
outcome variables. About seventeen variables were hypothesized to explain in factors affecting
participation in PSNP. The propensity score estimation model result indicated that, program
participation were found to be statistically significant with five variables ( family size, frequency of
development agent visit, sex household head and labor force of the households), while the remaining
were less significant in explaining the variation in the dependent variable. Though, the impact of
PSNP found to be insignificant effect on individual households’ asset building, income and
resilience to shocks in the study area, we could not deny that the estimated ATT shows an increment
for the beneficiaries of PSNP and there is a slight difference between the two groups in terms of the
outcome variables which is positively pronounced towards the beneficiary group of PSNP. It is
advisable to conduct intensive researches in this area at all level with that to get a new and strategic
ways to address the needs of the most marginalized and bring a significant scenario of resilience
together with a creditable multidimensional change
