A Proposed Proof of the Riemann Hypothesis via Variational Principles and Spectral Analysis
This work presents a proposed proof of the Riemann Hypothesis (RH), asserting that all non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function lie on the critical line ℜ(s)=12\Re(s)=\tfrac12ℜ(s)=21, with simplicity established both directly and as a spectral corollary. The manuscript develops: A variational Riccati equation for u(s)=ξ′(s)/ξ(s)u(s)=\xi'(s)/\xi(s)u(s)=ξ′(s)/ξ(s) with explicit meromorphic potential. Global uniqueness via Nevanlinna theory and Phragmén–Lindelöf arguments. Construction of a self-adjoint Hilbert–Pólya type operator, rigorously defined using Kato–Rellich, KLMN, and Weyl’s limit-point criteria. Proof of spectral–zero measure equality with explicit error bounds, supported by the “no ghosts, no missing atoms” lemma. Direct and conditional proofs of simplicity of all non-trivial zeros. Numerical validation (up to 10510^5105 zeros, interval arithmetic, certified accuracy ≤ 10−410^{-4}10−4) as supporting evidence. The result is a unified and rigorous framework that resolves the central question first posed by Riemann in 1859.
