AGRICULTURE AND URBAN PRESSURE IN DURRËS REGION: AN INTEGRATED APPROACH TO TERRITORIAL PLANNING
This study addresses the interaction between agriculture and urban pressure in the region of Durrës, offering an integrated approach to territorial planning. The focus is on the impact of rapid urbanization and uncontrolled construction on agricultural lands in peripheral areas such as Sukth, Shijak, and Ishëm. The analysis links urban developments with the risks of agricultural land loss and rural landscape fragmentation, emphasizing the importance of preserving productive land functions and ecosystem services. The study relies on statistical data, local plans, and strategic documents, as well as Albanian and European legislation on the protection of agricultural land. The proposed integrative approach aims to harmonize urban development needs with the preservation of agricultural capacities, suggesting sustainable policies, careful zoning, and inclusive local decision-making. The conclusions underline the need to review current planning practices and implement territorial protection mechanisms in line with the principles of territorial cohesion and sustainable development.
