Playlearn Adventure Series
The Playlearn Adventure Series is an educational innovation designed to address long-standing challenges in English language learning, particularly among Malaysian polytechnic students who often perceive English as difficult due to limited vocabulary, low confidence, and minimal exposure. Developed using the Design Thinking Model, this portable, game-based learning tool fosters a multisensory, hands-on, and interactive learning environment that encourages participation, builds learner autonomy, and enhances vocabulary acquisition. The innovation integrates physical tiles, controller boards, and structured exercise booklets to create immediate feedback and self-correction mechanisms through visual patterns, significantly reducing learner anxiety and promoting engagement. A quasi-experimental study involving Semester 1 students at Politeknik Kota Bharu demonstrated the tool’s effectiveness: the Innovation Gedxroup showed statistically significant improvement in post-test scores (mean gain = 0.2974, p < 0.001) compared to the Control Group, whose progress was negligible. The results underscore the potential of game-based instruction in transforming traditional language classrooms into learner-centred environments. With its user-friendly design, alignment with national curriculum outcomes, and adaptability across various educational levels, the Playlearn Adventure Series holds strong commercialization potential. The innovation is affordable, inclusive, and already protected under intellectual property rights, making it a scalable solution for broader implementation in TVET institutions and beyond.
