Análisis jurídico de cómo las políticas gubernamentales influyen en los ajustes del salario básico unificado y su impacto en el mercado laboral
The Unified Basic Wage (UBW) in Ecuador plays an essential role as a tool for social justice and economic stability. Its primary purpose is to guarantee a mínimum income for workers, but it also influences labor market regulation, promoting employment formalization and impacting business competitiveness. However, adjustmentes to the UBW must be made cautiosly to balance social demands with economic conditions, avoiding negative effects such as unemployment or increased informality. From a legal perspective, the UBW is supported by international principles that protect labor rights and seek to reduce economic inequalities. However, its implementation depends on factors such as inflation, the cost of living, and companies´ productive capacity. Therefore, government policies must be flexible and adaptable to changingmarket conditions, while ensuring effective enforcement through transparent regulatory mechanisms. The impact of the UBW is also relevant in the international context, as countries with solid legal frameworks and comprehensive strategies have managed to reduce poverty and improve quality of life, unlike those with weak regulations that face job insecurity. In Ecuador, the UBW has been recognized sice 1935 as a fundamental right to improve workers´living conditions, setting a precedent in the country´s labor policies. This analysis highlights the importance of designing evidence- based policies to promote inclusive and sustainable development.
