A Dual-Platform Implementation Framework for CMOS Ring Oscillator Design and Validation in 45nm Technology

This paper presents a comprehensive comparative analysis of 5-stage and 7-stage CMOS ring oscillators implemented in 45nm technology using a novel dual-platform validation framework. The research addresses critical challenges in nanoscale timing circuit design by combining industry-standard Cadence Virtuoso simulations with Python-based analytical modeling. Experimental results demonstrate that 5-stage oscillators achieve 1.25 GHz frequency with 2.95 mW power consumption, while 7-stage configurations operate at 892 MHz consuming 2.31 mW. The Python framework shows 89.2% accuracy in frequency prediction and 91.5% accuracy in power estimation compared to Cadence simulations. The proposed methodology reduces design exploration time by 65% while maintaining prediction accuracy within 10% deviation. Key performance metrics include propagation delays of 10.17 ps and 10.23 ps for 5- stage and 7-stage configurations respectively. This work establishes quantitative design guidelines for ring oscillator optimization in advanced CMOS processes and provides a validated framework for rapid design space exploration.
