An Assessment of the Interconnectedness and Distinctiveness of Religious Studies and Theology: A Closely Interrelated Discipline

With the focus to determine the interconnectedness and distinctiveness between religious studies and theology; the study proves that religious studies and theology are intertwined yet distinct academic disciplines, each with its own focus and methods. Problem addressed the often-blurred distinction between these fields, which had been leading to confusion in both academic and practical contexts. This paper aims to shows the interconnectedness and distinctive nature of religious studies and theology as two different disciplines. However, the paper examines the nature of their interconnection and divergence; clarify their respective contributions to understanding religion;find out the challenges that people are encountering when studying them, establish their implementation processes scholastically. This study employs a comparative analysis of scholarly literature toexamining how religious studies and theology approach religious phenomena differently. The theoretical framework integrates interdisciplinary insights from history, sociology, and philosophy of religion to highlight how religious studies typically emphasize empirical, crosscultural analysis of religious practices, beliefs, and institutions. While theology focuses on faithbased interpretations and systematic analysis of religious doctrines within specific traditions. This paper Finds out that while both disciplines seek to understand and interpret religious phenomena, religious studies adopts a more secular, objective stance, whereas theology often involves subjective and confessional perspectives. Conclusively, integrating these disciplines can provide a more comprehensive understanding of religion by combining empirical rigor with doctrinal insight. This paper recommends that scholars and educators should clearly delineate the aims and methods of each field to enhance interdisciplinary dialogue and avoid methodological conflicts. Abstract
