Delving into the biocidal application of Transition Metal Complexes Featuring Heterocyclic Semi-Carbazone and Thiosemi-Carbazone: An Overview
Abstract: The synthesis and coordination chemistry of transition metal ions with Schiff base ligands has attracted considerable interest due to their capacity to produce stable and biologically active compounds. Condensation of semi carbazides or thio semi carbazide with appropriate aldehydes or ketones yields semi carbazones and thiosemicarbazones. The majority of heterocyclic compounds have very well applications in the pharmaceutical and medical industries, making heterocyclic chemistry a vital subfield of chemistry. Catalyst-wise, a lot of focus is placed on metal complexes containing heteroatoms due to the greater structural diversity and range of possible uses offered by these compounds. Semi carbazone derivatives, especially those that form complexes with transition metals like Ni, Co and copper have been evaluated for their therapeutic potential in various domains, including antifungal, antibiotic, antiviral, antioxidant, antituberculosis, and cancer treatments. This review categorizes the biological activities of synthetic semi-carbazone and thiosemicarbazone derivatives in conjunction with transition metals into distinct groups. It also discusses the origins of these derivatives and complexes concerning their biological activity.
