Asociación del Síndrome de Burnout y la automedicación en el personal de Salud en la UMF 3

Healthcare personnel in family medicine units exhibit various dimensions of burnout síndrome, such as emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment. This study investigated the potential relationship between burnout síndrome and self-medication. The objective was to establish an association between burnout síndrome and self-medication among healthcare workers at Family Medicine Unit 3. A non-experimental, prospective, cross-sectional, and descriptive study was conducted with 149 participants, using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). Variables such as gender, age, marital status, children, job category, working at another institution, shift, self-medication, and burnout dimensions were analyzed. Statistical tests used included χ² and Student’s T-test. Of the respondents, 75.8% were women, with an average age of 37.9 years; 55% were single, and 55.7% had children. The sample included 24.8% medical assistants, 83.9% worked only at this institution, and 53.7% worked the morning shift. Additionally, 59.7% admitted to self-medicating without a specific pharmacological group. Emotional exhaustion was present in 61.1% of participants. No statistically significant relationship was found between burnout and self-medication (p=0.97), nor between self-medication and gender síndro. It was concluded that although no association was found between burnout and self-medication, emotional exhaustion was the most prevalent manifestation.
