Calidad de Vida de los Pacientes Mayores de 60 Años con Hipertensión Art erial de la UMF 9 Frontera Coahuila
Background. Arterial hypertension is the most common chronic disease worldwide, and its impact extends beyond clinical aspects, also affecting patients' emotional well-being and quality of life. Various studies have reported lower quality of life and greater emotional disturbances among patients; however, the findings are contradictory and inconclusive, suggesting the need to tailor analyses to specific populations. Objective. To determine the quality of life of patients over 60 years old with arterial hypertension treated at UMF Frontera 9. Methodology. This was an observational, analytical, quantitative, cross-sectional, and prospective study conducted from May to November 2023. It targeted patients over 60 years old with arterial hypertension at UMF 9 in Frontera, Coahuila. Quality of life was assessed using the CHAL questionnaire, which has high reliability (Cronbach’s alpha of 0.96). Pearson’s chi-square test was used for statistical analysis, with a 95% confidence level and a 5% margin of error. Variables. Dependent variable: CHAL scale score (quality of life). Independent variables: duration of hypertension, control of arterial hypertension, symptoms, age, comorbidities. Results. Among the 355 patients interviewed, 35 had poor quality of life, 285 had moderate quality of life, and 35 had good quality of life. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) was the most frequent comorbidity among those with moderate quality of life, and the duration of hypertension was most commonly between 6 and 10 years.
