Relación entre la Obesidad Infantil y Estilos de Vida Paterno en la Unidad Familiar 9 de Frontera Coahuila

Introduction: Childhood obesity is currently one of the most significant public health problems, with a considerable proportion of children and adolescents being overweight or obese. There is a clear familial influence: having one obese parent increases a child’s risk of obesity by two to three times, and by up to 15 times if both parents are obese. General Objective: To identify the relationship between childhood obesity and parental lifestyle. Methodology: An observational, analytical study was conducted on overweight or obese patients aged 1 to 17 years at Family Medicine Unit (UMF) No. 9 in Frontera, Coahuila, during the period from December 2023 to July 2024. The "Questionnaire on Habits Related to Overweight and Obesity" was used for data collection. Variables: Dependent: LifestyleIndependent: Obesity Confounding variables: Age, BMI, Percentile, Sex, Physical Activity, Alcohol Consumption, Emotional Eating, Caloric Intake. Results: The statistical analysis included 265 valid cases. The data showed that children with poor lifestyles had a higher prevalence of both severe and general obesity compared to those with healthy or moderate lifestyles. The Chi-square values obtained were 186.415 for lifestyle and 45.879 for children's percentiles.
