Riesgos Digestivos por Pesticidas Aéreos en Pobladores del Sector Agrícola de Milagro, Ecuador (2023)

The intensive use of aerially applied pesticides in agricultural settings plays a significant role in crop productivity but poses considerable health risks to nearby populations. This study evaluates the impact of prolonged exposure to aerial pesticides on digestive health among agricultural residents in Milagro, Ecuador, during 2023. Using a quantitative approach with correlational and descriptive scope, and a mixed inductive-deductive non-experimental method, data were collected from a sample of 40 residents aged 30 to 40 through surveys. Findings reveal that 97.5% of participants reported prolonged pesticide exposure, and 95% experienced digestive health issues, indicating a high prevalence of these disorders within the population. However, only 10% acknowledged a causal link between pesticide exposure and digestive problems, highlighting a 90% gap in awareness of the health risks associated with pesticide use. These results emphasize not only the detrimental health effects of improper pesticide handling but also the urgent need for targeted health education programs and safer agricultural practices to minimize exposure and protect community health.
