Stakeholder Roundtables
Deliverable D6.7 captures the essence and outcomes of two stakeholder roundtables conducted under thePlasticsFatE project, a Horizon 2020 initiative addressing the impact of micro and nanoplastics (MNPs) onhuman health. These roundtables served as a platform to foster cross-sectoral dialogue, disseminate projectfindings, and co-develop actionable strategies for future research, regulation, and standardization of MNPmanagement.Purpose and Context: The PlasticsFatE project recognizes that tackling the complex challenges posed byMNPsrequires the collaboration of diverse stakeholders, including industry leaders, researchers, policymakers,NGOs, and public health experts. The roundtables were organized to bridge gaps between research andpractice, ensuring that findings are scientifically robust, practically applicable, and aligned with societal andregulatory priorities.Roundtable Highlights: The first roundtable, held at Burg Windeck in September 2024, focused on presentingkey project findings, identifying stakeholder needs, and drafting a preliminary roadmap for MNP riskmanagement. The second roundtable, held at DECHEMA in Frankfurt in January 2025, aimed to refine thisroadmap based on further consultation and feedback. Discussions centred on harmonizing detectionmethods, addressing chronic exposure risks, and integrating scientific advancements into regulatory frameworks.Stakeholder Contributions: Participants provided invaluable insights, highlighting critical gaps such as the needfor standardized testingmethodologies and enhanced risk assessment tools. Collaborative opportunities wereidentified, including partnerships to develop predictive models and educational initiatives to raise publicawareness aboutMNPs.Impact and Future Directions: The outcomes of these roundtables are expected to influence EU strategies onplastic waste management and MNP regulation. By fostering innovation, enhancing policy alignment, andpromoting public engagement, the PlasticsFatE project aims to set a benchmark for the sustainable and safeuse of plastics. This deliverable underscores the importance of stakeholder collaboration in shaping actionable and impactfulsolutions to one of today’s most pressing environmental and health challenge
