VR-Trainingssystem für Patientensimulation in der Pflegeausbildung
Nursing education requires practice-oriented and safe learning environments that are not overly dependent on physical resources. Virtual reality (VR) offers significant potential by enabling immersive simulations that enhance learners’ confidence and strengthen practical skills. Within a project of the Kliniken Landkreis Heidenheim gGmbH in cooperation with TriCat, the VR training system i:medtasim was implemented and integrated into teaching. To evaluate the sense of presence, an assessment was conducted on January 29, 2025, with eleven third-year nursing students using the Slater-Usoh-Steed Questionnaire (SUSQ). The results indicate that the majority of participants perceived the VR environment as realistic and immersive: more than half rated their sense of presence and sensory involvement at the highest level. At the same time, the findings suggest potential for further optimization, particularly in the area of sensory feedback. Overall, the evaluation confirms that VR-based training provides a realistic and effective complement to nursing education. It has the potential not only to strengthen students’ competencies but also to improve patient safety and the overall quality of training in the long term.
