Integrating Work and Life: Assessing Balance Outcomes in the Female Physiotherapy Workforce
Background: Work–life balance (WLB) has become a critical concern in healthcare, particularly for female physiotherapists who manage both professional responsibilities and significant domestic roles. Materials and methods: This study assessed WLB among 60 female physiotherapists using validated tools, including the Carlson Work–Life Balance Scale, Fisher-McAuley Scale, time use analysis, role conflict instruments, and boundary management questionnaires. Results: Findings revealed moderate WLB scores, with substantial work-tofamily conflict and evidence of disproportionate domestic responsibilities. Longer clinical hours and heavy household workloads were strongly associated with reduced WLB and increased psychological strain. Most participants reported adopting integrative boundary strategies, though these were insufficient to fully mitigate conflict without systemic organizational support. Conclusion: The results emphasize the need for institutional interventions such as flexible scheduling, workload adjustments, and family-supportive policies, alongside societal efforts to address gendered divisions of labour. By tackling these challenges, healthcare systems can foster professional sustainability, improve staff well-being, and enhance patient care outcomes.
