GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS, ROLE, AND SIGNIFICANCE OF EXERCISE FOR PREGNANT WOMEN

This article highlights the critical role of physical activity during pregnancy in promoting maternal health and optimal fetal development. It examines the physiological and psychological changes that occur during gestation and underscores the benefits of moderate, trimester-specific exercise in enhancing adaptation, reducing discomfort, and facilitating recovery. Evidence supports the use of activities such as gymnastics, swimming, and yoga, provided medical clearance is obtained. Despite proven benefits, participation remains low – particularly among sedentary or comorbid women – due to limited awareness and guidance. The author advocates for professionally supervised, accessible programs and targeted, media-supported health campaigns to improve engagement. Promoting physical activity during pregnancy is essential for improving perinatal outcomes and advancing public health priorities.
