ILIADA Integrated Learning: an Innovative Model of Curriculum Integration for Transversal Skills

Contemporary educational reform emphasizes the development of students’ transversal competencies and the connection of school knowledge to real-life situations. In this context, integrated learning has emerged as a solution to overcome subject fragmentation, offering students a holistic perspective on knowledge. This paper presents the innovative ILIADA model – an interdisciplinary approach that combines History, Language/Literature, Engineering, Art, Digitalization, and Action within a unified learning framework. The theoretical foundations of the model, its implementation in a thematic pilot project, and the results obtained are described. The integrated project, centered on the theme of „Friendship” and involving students of various ages (primary, lower secondary, and high school), demonstrated the potential of the ILIADA model to increase motivation for learning, develop key competencies (communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, digital skills), and transform the student’s role from passive receiver to active participant in their own formation. The article concludes with a discussion of the implications of this model for educational practice and curriculum policies, highlighting its practical value in the context of modern curriculum integration and competence-centered education.
