Large Language Models for Internet of Things: A Systematic Mapping Study

This work presents a systematic mapping study on the integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) within the Internet of Things (IoT). The study reviews existing research to identify how LLMs are being applied to enhance IoT systems, highlighting key use cases such as context-aware services, predictive maintenance, and natural language interfaces for smart devices. In addition to summarizing advancements, the study outlines major challenges including computational constraints, data privacy concerns, and real-time processing limitations. It also discusses emerging solutions such as optimized model architectures and improved security frameworks. The paper aims to provide a comprehensive resource for researchers and practitioners seeking to understand the current landscape of LLM applications in IoT and to guide future developments in this interdisciplinary field.
