Thematic Analysis of George Orwell's Animal Farm: A Political Allegory of Power and Corruption

This research paper is a thematic examination on George Orwell’s Animal Farm using a qualitative thematic approach as defined by Braun and Clarke (2006). This work attempts to find how Orwell’s text reflects and criticizes Soviet Union historical progression during Joseph Stalin’s leadership and henceforth positions the novella as an ongoing allegory on political power, corruption, and ideological deception. The basic themes used include power’s corrupting nature, deployment of propaganda and word manipulations, stratification on social classes, historical revisionism, indoctrination, fear as a force for domination, and revolutionary betrayal. Drawing on original scholarly sources and textual inspiration, this explanation uncovers the subtle ways through which Orwell constructs an allegorical world mirroring totalitarian government and offers a prolonged commentary on humankind's propensity for manipulation, conformity, and authoritarianism. Animal Farm is revealed through the essay as a seminal piece of literature with ongoing relevance today that chronicles the historical trend of political revolution and atrophy of ideals in the face of unregulated authority and structurally embedded inequality.
