Accessible Automated Automotive Workshop Series (A3WS): Accessibility in Mobility

With modernizing traffic, a rise of automated vehicles (AVs) is expected. The potential multidirectional communication needs of AVs require solutions for traffic participants, including cars and trucks, pedestrians and cyclists, infrastructure, and mobile entities. While AVs must communicate their intentions, they must also react to other road users and their different communication queues. As these queues may be visual, auditory, or via connected data, AVs must make use of new technology, including pattern recognition and data harmonization, possibly enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI). While automotive research progresses quickly, people with special needs (PSN) are vastly underrepresented. With an aging population due to demographic changes and advances in medical treatments and with the stride towards equality and accessibility, the needs of these groups must be considered more within forming future traffic. We provide an inclusive platform for interdisciplinary exchange on current and future topics, especially for academia, industry, and politics. Thus, we want to allow different perspectives with particular (but not exclusive) regard to user experience (UX), psychology, product design, and legislative concerns and, thus, support the communication and potential founding of new value streams. We want to create new interdisciplinary networks and collaborations to make future communication between traffic participants more inclusive.
