Towards a Systematic Testing Framework for Virtual Reality Applications: Challenges and Opportunities
Ensuring the quality of virtual reality (VR) applications poses unique challenges due to their immersive, interactive, and real-time nature. Existing testing practices are predominantly manual and often lack systematic methodologies, resulting in increased effort and reduced reproducibility compared to automated approaches. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the current state of VR testing, identifying key shortcomings such as the lack of automation, inadequate coverage metrics, and the limited applicability of traditional testing paradigms. We highlight critical research gaps and propose opportunities for the development of a systematic, VR-specific testing framework. Our objective is to establish a foundation for structured, automated approaches that improve software quality while alleviating the burdens associated with manual testing in VR development.
