Evidence-based nursing and nurses’ hand hygiene good practice adherence: a randomized clinical trial
The study addresses the issue of the low and variable adherence of nurses to hand hygiene practices, which are essential to reduce healthcare-associated infections. Despite the implementation of multiple strategies, results have been limited and short-lived. The aim is to improve adherence through a randomized, single-center, single-blind clinical trial comparing a control group (standard multimodal intervention) with an experimental group, where nurses themselves act as observers of hand hygiene practices. The primary outcome is adherence to recommendations (opportunity, sequence, and timing), assessed at baseline (T0), after 30 days (T1), and 180 days (T2). A qualitative and quantitative improvement is expected, especially in the experimental group, with results maintained up to six months.
