Effective Communication in Healthcare Settings: Building Trust and Improving Patient Outcomes (2025)
Effective communication is a cornerstone of quality healthcare. When healthcare workers and patients share information clearly and with empathy, trust and understanding grow. Good communication in healthcare is linked to higher patient satisfaction, better adherence to treatment plans, and improved health outcomes. Studies indicate that patient-centred communication (where providers listen to patients and involve them in decisions) helps establish the trust that ultimately leads to better recovery and safety. This article reviews evidence that clear, compassionate dialogue in healthcare settings strengthens patient–provider relationships and improves outcomes, from reducing errors to enhancing equity. It also discusses barriers like jargon, cultural differences, and digital challenges, and highlight strategies that help ensure every patient feels heard and cared for.
