PROPOSAL FOR A Star-Shield — A Multilayer Planetary Defense Architecture
We propose Star-Shield, a concept-level, multilayer planetary-defense architecture that combines (i) early warning via a heliocentric PD-KCR magnetometry/photometry ring at ~0.7 AU, (ii) photonics-based mitigation using optical-flux redirection swarms and beam-driven sail tags, and (iii) longer-term magnetospheric buffering with superconducting rings that store positive electromagnetic energy. The paper specifies scaling laws, order-of-magnitude calculations, simulation KPIs, and strict safety/governance guardrails. This is a modeling-only concept paper—no prototypes or field tests are claimed. We also outline a simulation roadmap (WSA–ENLIL CME timing, Δv(P,t,M,R) trade-spaces, plasma-skin attenuation, and MHD dose-reduction vs B-field), along with open-data practices (notebooks, CSVs, QA.json). The aim is to enable independent verification and publishable upper-bounds across the stack.
