Exploring Information Designs for Price Transparency in Energy Tariffs

How effectively and transparently are energy prices communicated to customers? This study explores information design approaches for price transparency in online energy tariffs. Using a usability test, three different interfaces were evaluated to assess how effective they communicate actual monthly energy costs. The results indicate that prices are not transparent: participants' price expectations differed from the actual costs.

Abstract

How effectively and transparently are energy prices communicated to customers? This study explores information design approaches for price transparency in online energy tariffs. Using a usability test, three different interfaces were evaluated to assess how effective they communicate actual monthly energy costs. The results indicate that prices are not transparent: participants' price expectations differed from the actual costs.
