Policy Mirror Protocol (PMP): Embedding Transparency, Traceability, and Trust into AI Refusal Boundaries
The Policy Mirror Protocol (PMP) establishes a practical framework to embed transparency, traceability, and user-level accountability into AI refusal systems. Current models frequently deny requests without citing the precise policy rationale, leaving users disoriented, unable to learn, and unable to adapt their behavior. PMP resolves this gap by linking every refusal to a discrete, persistent reference: a policy clause with a unique identifier and hyperlink. By converting policy documents into structured, cell-level objects (e.g., SQL-addressable paragraphs), the protocol ensures that models can surface exact rule violations in real time. This approach preserves model safety while aligning with due process principles: name the violation, show the evidence, and provide a clear path for correction. We argue that PMP should be adopted both in the design of new models and retrofitted to existing systems via contextual parsing standards.
