Topical issues of polymodal research: a systematic review

The aim of this theoretical review is to present the accumulated knowledge within the framework of Russian polymodal linguistics for understanding and systematizing current trends and results, as well as identifying existing contradictions to determine further research prospects in this area. The material of the article consists of 2012-2025 dissertation research for the degrees of Doctor and Candidate of Philological Sciences. The attention of linguists is drawn to the issues of correlation between verbal and nonverbal components of information, the development of a polymodal analysis methodology. The role of the nonverbal aspect of communication is actively studied, and the functionality of nonverbal means is determined. The scientific novelty of the work lies in summarizing current material on the study of semiotically heterogeneous texts from various scientific positions based on the material of qualification scientific works. The review made it possible to summarize dissertation works carried out from polymodal positions, to identify a growing interest in the study of nonverbal components of communication based on various discursive genres, to describe current trends in the study of polymodal texts and to outline the prospects of further research.
