Printed reflectarray antenna for space-based SAR

More and more stringent requirements are being imposed on antenna systems used in earth remote sensing. One of these antennas is a reflectarray antenna, which combines the advantages of a reflector and a phased array antenna. However, such antennas are more often used in radio communication systems, and the possibility of using this type of antennas in space-based synthesized aperture radars is rarely considered in literature and articles. In this article, the results of research work on an antenna with a flat reflective array are considered and an assessment of the feasibility of using it in systems with synthesized radar on small spacecraft is carried out.

Abstract

More and more stringent requirements are being imposed on antenna systems used in earth remote sensing. One of these antennas is a reflectarray antenna, which combines the advantages of a reflector and a phased array antenna. However, such antennas are more often used in radio communication systems, and the possibility of using this type of antennas in space-based synthesized aperture radars is rarely considered in literature and articles. In this article, the results of research work on an antenna with a flat reflective array are considered and an assessment of the feasibility of using it in systems with synthesized radar on small spacecraft is carried out.
